Caprica confusing trailer

July 23rd 2008 04:40
Caprica Trailer
Caprica is confuzzling me! As was previously revealed the Daniel Graystone character was going to create a robotic version of his dead daughter. Thing is the daughter looks human in the trailer. That being the case does it not fly in the face of the history Battlestar Galactica shows?

In BSG the cylons were robotic centurions who rebelled thus causing the first cylon war. After the war - during the armistice - the cylons (now sentient) started biotechnological experiments on humans and the 12 models of cylon were crafted. However Caprica seems to suggest one Doctor (Graystone) in his grief develops the first cylon... Zoe-R ...CONFUSED!

Check out the trailer HERE.

Watchmen trailer looks cool

July 18th 2008 02:37
Watchmen
Watchmen trailer is live people and I have to say it looks better than I thought it was going to look. The geeks over at io9 put up the trailer and it's a nice big size so you can check out the detailing. See what you think and let me know, for my money it's better than I thought it was going ot be.

If you're not sure what Watchmen is - consider your geek pass revoked! - it's a popular graphic novel / comic series by Allan Moore and DC comics, so year, it's another Hollywood bastardization of a comic book series, but hey, it looks pretty good so...

Don Davis and Michael Turner RIP

July 2nd 2008 01:15
Don Davis
It's been a sad week in the geek world. Two of geekdoms greats have gone to the great geek hall in the sky. Firstly there's Don S Davis, better known as General George Hammond in Stargate, or for X-Files fans.. Scully's dad. He died on June 29.

Next on the geek death list is Michael Turner, a young guy of only 37 who died June 27 after a long fight with cancer. Turner is most famed for creating female comic book heroes Fathom and Witchblade. He also created ASPEN Comics.

They'll both be sorely missed.

Women of The Spirit given voice

June 25th 2008 06:48
The Spirit
If you liked the Frank Miller big screen take of Sin City, then chances are the new Miller epic 'The Spirit' is already on your radar screen (I was going to say DRADIS, but meh). The Spirit features a plethora of gorgeous lady characters, including two played by Eva Mendez and Scarlett Johansson. If you like the sound of that, you might want to check out the sound of them and you can thanks to Yahoo.

You can head over to THIS SITE and check out Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, Jaime King and Sarah Paulson as they croon their way into your heart via a little soundbite from each of their respective characters. My favorite is Eva Mendez, because she just sounds so darn seductive.

Aliens modded PT Cruiser

June 6th 2008 06:23
Aliens PT Cruiser
Man where has the week gone, if I didn't have photographic evidence to the contrary I'd swear I'd been abducted by Aliens or kidnapped like Sidney Bristow and lost a few days! Anyway all is well, I'm back and given my penchant for a certain Aliens franchise saw this little nugget and thought it might be of interest to fellow Alien fans.

Car lovers Jalopnik have a nice piece on their site about a rather weird Aliens styled PT Cruiser. You can check out the full article HERE and I suggest you do, whether it's to balk at the tacky nature of this, or coo in wonder at this car owners utter sci-fi geekdom.

Virtuality by Ron D Moore

May 29th 2008 01:26
Virtuality
Ronald D Moore is one of the masters behind the brilliant Battlestar Galactica. It's of little surprise then that geeks such as myself are hanging on this guys every move, one of which is new series Virtuality. The show follows the reality TV adventures of a deep-space / long-haul crew. It seems the crew may use virtual reality entertainment on-board their ship Phaeton as well we being filmed themselves.

On reading background information about the series it sounds like a show based around the idea of the holodeck from Star Trek, mixed with a sort of Big Brother ethos. Casting has begun for the series and the ships therapist will be played by brit actor James D'Arcy. He'll be a sort of anti-hero since he's also a producer on the reality TV series and will allegedly use his position as ships therapist to stir up trouble between the crew

City of Ember - Looks hot!

May 28th 2008 01:31
City of Ember
I'm a bit of a fan of kiddie films, fantasy kiddie films, actually all fantasy / sci-fi films, so it's probably of little surprise that the upcoming movie City of Ember appeals to my inner child sensibilities. City of Ember is based on a novel and follows the story of the people of the City of Ember. Essentially they've been living in a huge underground city for a couple of century's, but the power generator is about to go pop, so a couple of teens have to search Ember for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of the city's existence.

As fans of this genre we're probably already aware of a couple of things, they'll find the outside world and it probably won't be as dreadful as those that run the city of Ember had them believe. I could be wrong as I haven't read the book and know nothing about it... and nor do I want to, because the movie looks pretty cool

Phoenix Lander on Mars

May 26th 2008 22:20
Phoenix Lander
Sci-fi geeks like a little 'reality' with their hobby I've found, so here's a little science-non-fiction for you. The Phoenix Mars Mission has made it safely to the red planet and all is well. The Mars lander arrived on the planet yesterday (Sunday evening, May 25).

Interestingly if you head over to the official website you can even see images of Phoenix as it parachutes down to the Martian surface. This is the first time we've seen a craft landing on Mars thanks to another spacecraft taking the handy snap.

Runaways comic to film

May 22nd 2008 23:33
Runaways Marvel Comic Movie
Runaways is a a new Marvel Comics movie based on the Brian K. Vaughn series The Runaways. This will be a fairly new comic to film project given the comic series only launched in 2002. Runaways follows a group of angsty teens who find out their parents are super-villains. The teens are good guys and go about putting things right that their parents put wrong.

It all sounds pretty interesting assuming it ever gets off the ground. Marvel are big into superhero comic to movie cross over and rightly so with so much box office dollars to be made. Whether Runaways gets made into a feature film is yet to be seen, but for now at least it's all systems green for go.

Battlestar X-Files Crossover

May 22nd 2008 02:02
Battlestar Xfiles Crossover
What does Battlestar Galactica and the X-Files got to do with one another? Well apparently quite a few things. The girls over at LesbianGeek have come up with quite a few crossover story arcs and other things between Battlestar Galactica and the X-Files. The article - cunningly titled 'Battlestar X-Filesactica" - is worth a read if you're a fan of both shows (as am I).

I have to say I enjoyed the fact a "goo bath" appears in the new X-Files movie, here's hoping there's no ranting hybrids slooshing about in it though
