As a huge gamer it's difficult not to think of Elena Fisher whenever I see actress Emily Rose, because Elena is such an awesome character and Rose is the actress behind the character. In Haven Rose's character Agent Parker isn't unlike the character of Elena, she's smart, witty and has a nose for trouble. Haven is based on The Colorado Kid by Stephen King and if the pilot is anything to go by, it's ticking all the Stephen King boxes.

I quite enjoyed this first episode, it started snappy and despite dipping a little towards the end was pretty cool as these kinds of shows go. It also managed to set up the bigger story we'll be following throughout the season. Nice.

Production has finally kicked off for AMCs zombie apocalypse thriller "The Walking Dead". The new show based on the Robert Kirkman's comic The Walking Dead follows a group of apocalypse survivors, sort of Left 4 Dead style as they try and survive what has become the zombie-infested South. If you've read the comic you're probably looking forward to this and let's face it, a TV show with zombies beats out all the vampires taking over.

I'm a fan of V, both of the original show and this 're-imagining'. As the new show goes on though, I'm left wondering whether the gaping plot-holes are ruining this promising show.

A few spoilers so make sure you've seen up to episode "John May" before reading ahead. In this episode, Erica swears her son Tyler does indeed belong - biologically - to ex husband Joe, despite a DNA test stating otherwise some years earlier. Given Erica's adamant claims that Joe is indeed Tyler's father and that the test was wrong, the FBI agent never retook the test, an oddity to say the least. These sorts of silly decisions, fly in the face of logic, as did the previous weeks latex fake fingerprints fooling the V's amazing security systems, or the fact they didn't recognize the man put in charge of offing John May, strolling onto the ship.

These inconsistencies make no sense and actually ruin the show more than the overdone CGI. Now of course if Erica does actually decide to get another DNA test, the V's can tamper with the results to their hearts content, I mean they have access to all the phone and computer systems they like.

Maybe they will explain Erica's lack of a second opinion on V tampering back in the day, maybe they'll just ignore it, whatever the case, they need to stop with the silly character decisions, or the show will suffer in the ratings.

La Femme Nikita cast - Maggie Q is it

February 23rd 2010 01:55
I'm not sure if this is scifi per se, but given Alias often tiptoed into the scifi genre, I'm assuming the new re-imagining of La Femme Nikita may also. As movies go Nikita is one of the best - in its original French with subtitles, not dubbed - and it had French actress Anne Parillaud in the eponymous role. Seems like things are moving in with the re-imagining as Maggie Q has been cast in the role. Not wure what to make of this one, but perhaps my view is tainted ever so slightly because Nikita is one of my favorite movies. Hopefully the new TV show adaptation will be better than the last time they tried it.

Sci-Fi fix in 2010 starts shortly

January 6th 2010 02:23
It really depends what you consider to fall into the sci-fi genre, but there's plenty to keep us sci-fi geeks happy in 2010. January 2nd sees Caprica hit our screens and for those of us not put off by the pilot, that means more Battlestar Galactica universe goodness (and let's face it, can it really be worse than The Plan?).

March 4 sees the return of Flash Forward, a show that seems to be heading to the axeman, but still has my interest, despite a sloppy ending before the break. March 30 the visitors return in V, another show that is allegedly having problems, but will hopefully go on.

If you're a regular here you'll know I am a massive BSG (Battlestar Galactica) fangirl. It was with great anticipation then that I looked forward to Battlestar Galactica The Plan. This was to answer loads of questions and fill quite a few holes in the series. It was going to be so great it was said (by cast and crew) that it would make me want to watch the entire series from the beginning after its viewing.

It has to be said that all this hype has meant nothing in reality because The Plan was a bit of a bore and it answered nothing I hadn't already worked out for myself. All it did was make me less sympathetic to the cylons than I had felt by series end. The Plan was yet again too much Cavill whining and not enough of the interesting characters. The introduction of brand new characters or in-depth stories about cylons like Simon who we never overly knew in the series seemed a waste of exposition that could have been spent better on characters of interest

What is it about Warehouse 13?

September 8th 2009 21:09
I've been watching a fair bit of Warehouse 13 and though it is a good show, I don't think it's a great show. So why is it that Warehouse 13 has managed to break pretty much all the viewing figures presently held by the SyFy Channel? Perhaps you're a fan of the show and can point out some of this inherent magic that appears to have people glued to screens?

Firefly cast voicing Halo 3: ODST

July 15th 2009 23:55
If you're a fan of Firefly or Serenity and you're an Xbox 360 owner you're probably going to implode when you read this. More than one of the crew is set to appear in Halo 3: ODST. Nathan Fillion will be voicing Sgt. Buck in Halo 3: ODST and we've all known this for awhile, but more Firefly crew are popping up. Adam Baldwin is now being credited with the voice of Dutch in Halo 3: ODST. Alan Tudyk is rumored to be voicing Mickey in the game and Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer voices Dare. Quite the sci-fi extravaganza.

I've been a fan of "V" for a long time, yes I'm old enough to have seen the original series air and remember it well, I even own the DVD. Needless to say I am more than a little stoked to see the series getting the updated treatment and it's looking pretty darn good.

Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost stars as a resistance fighter going up again those seemingly nice - but really evil reptilian - aliens and she kicks some major ass in doing so

Battlestar Galactica Finale Thoughts

March 25th 2009 01:12
Well it's all over for Battlestar Galactica - The Plan excluded. This post will cover a few thoughts about the finale as well as overall thoughts about the series as a whole. If you haven't seen the finale - why on earth not! - then probably best you don't read on as it will contain spoilers.

So the end came and it was astounding. I know a lot of people seem to be hung up on the non resolution for Starbuck, but I think there was only so much that could be done and the writers did it well. It never hurts to have a few niggling questions hanging
