Sci-Fi fix in 2010 starts shortly

January 6th 2010 02:23
It really depends what you consider to fall into the sci-fi genre, but there's plenty to keep us sci-fi geeks happy in 2010. January 2nd sees Caprica hit our screens and for those of us not put off by the pilot, that means more Battlestar Galactica universe goodness (and let's face it, can it really be worse than The Plan?).

March 4 sees the return of Flash Forward, a show that seems to be heading to the axeman, but still has my interest, despite a sloppy ending before the break. March 30 the visitors return in V, another show that is allegedly having problems, but will hopefully go on.

If you're a regular here you'll know I am a massive BSG (Battlestar Galactica) fangirl. It was with great anticipation then that I looked forward to Battlestar Galactica The Plan. This was to answer loads of questions and fill quite a few holes in the series. It was going to be so great it was said (by cast and crew) that it would make me want to watch the entire series from the beginning after its viewing.

It has to be said that all this hype has meant nothing in reality because The Plan was a bit of a bore and it answered nothing I hadn't already worked out for myself. All it did was make me less sympathetic to the cylons than I had felt by series end. The Plan was yet again too much Cavill whining and not enough of the interesting characters. The introduction of brand new characters or in-depth stories about cylons like Simon who we never overly knew in the series seemed a waste of exposition that could have been spent better on characters of interest.

Add to this many of our favorite characters not even appearing (unless briefly in flashback) and what you have is a disappointing foray into what happens when you make a TV movie about all the characters you didn't overly care for in the series and mix it with a bunch of overly convoluted garbage filling out the stories of character so distasteful you just wish someone would airlock them sooner to give you some peace. (yeah I know... loooong sentence.. but so perfect at expressing what I wanted to).

Absolutely gutted Battlestar Galactica The Plan didn't come close to living up to what was promised. That said I'll still be purchasing the Bluray to round out my collection.

What is it about Warehouse 13?

September 8th 2009 21:09
I've been watching a fair bit of Warehouse 13 and though it is a good show, I don't think it's a great show. So why is it that Warehouse 13 has managed to break pretty much all the viewing figures presently held by the SyFy Channel? Perhaps you're a fan of the show and can point out some of this inherent magic that appears to have people glued to screens?

Firefly cast voicing Halo 3: ODST

July 15th 2009 23:55
If you're a fan of Firefly or Serenity and you're an Xbox 360 owner you're probably going to implode when you read this. More than one of the crew is set to appear in Halo 3: ODST. Nathan Fillion will be voicing Sgt. Buck in Halo 3: ODST and we've all known this for awhile, but more Firefly crew are popping up. Adam Baldwin is now being credited with the voice of Dutch in Halo 3: ODST. Alan Tudyk is rumored to be voicing Mickey in the game and Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer voices Dare. Quite the sci-fi extravaganza.

I've been a fan of "V" for a long time, yes I'm old enough to have seen the original series air and remember it well, I even own the DVD. Needless to say I am more than a little stoked to see the series getting the updated treatment and it's looking pretty darn good.

Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost stars as a resistance fighter going up again those seemingly nice - but really evil reptilian - aliens and she kicks some major ass in doing so

Battlestar Galactica Finale Thoughts

March 25th 2009 01:12
Well it's all over for Battlestar Galactica - The Plan excluded. This post will cover a few thoughts about the finale as well as overall thoughts about the series as a whole. If you haven't seen the finale - why on earth not! - then probably best you don't read on as it will contain spoilers.

So the end came and it was astounding. I know a lot of people seem to be hung up on the non resolution for Starbuck, but I think there was only so much that could be done and the writers did it well. It never hurts to have a few niggling questions hanging

Spoilers for the recent BSG episodes, up to and including "Blood on the Scales". This season of Battlestar Galactica has been awesome thus far. Sure there are a few things that aren't sitting perfectly well, but all in all it is really rockin it! One of the big stories thus far has been the mutiny and of course the actions of one Mr Gaeta. There's really two schools of thought on this so I'm throwing it out there to gauge opinion in the Orble realm.

On the one hand Gaeta had a point, the fleet is now accepting an enemy within their fold, they're also going to be accepting enemy technology. They're giving access to the enemy who wiped out humanity and placing them and their technology on civilian vessels. Smart move Adama. Teaming up with Zarek though, bad move, though he too had some good points, that brought all manner of things into question.. when does care of the fleet enter into a military dictatorship type situation. When the military leader is in bed - literally and figuratively - with the president of humanity.. lines become blurred. The difference bring I guess... Adama isn't a terrorist or murderer

Battlestar Galactica final episodes

January 13th 2009 00:25
It's only mere days away until those final Battlestar Galactica episodes air. This is a bittersweet moment, we'll get all those answers, but it will be the end of a captivating series. I've thought the final cylon was everyone from Ellen, to Felix, to Dualla (well there is the 'Dual' thing). I'm hoping it isn't Boxey, Zac or some other character that has barely appeared. Rumor has it the final five in the opera house aren't actually Tigh, Ander, Tory etc, but 5 separate beings completely... is it all a ruse?

Whatever the case I can't wait to see the final episodes, once everything is answered RDM (creator) says we'll all want to re-watch the entire series from the very beginning.. I'm lookngi forward to doing that... how about you guys?

Could Ellen Tigh be the last cylon?

December 1st 2008 02:02
Could Ellen Tigh be the final Cylon? I've had my thoughts on who that final Cylon is for some time and though Ellen Tigh was in amongst it, she was never really top of my list because I thought it odd given the whole Tigh / Caprica 6 thing. Why it would work if Ellen were the final cylon is simple... she's female.. and in fairness the final cylon - numbers wise - should be female, or the final 5 will be 4 men, one woman... which would be lame. Sure it would still be uneven with a 7 male / 5 female ratio overall, but meh!

Ellen would also fit in with that infamous Last Supper image that Ron D Moore stated did NOT show the final cylon. Assuming this to be the case, it's a cast member not pictured, which leaves only a few good choices, namely Ellen Tigh, Dualla or Zac Adama... and I will scream if it's Zac Adama, and not in a good way

How would you feel if the new Doctor Who were a woman? That's one of the many rumors circulating the Tardis at present and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand it would be great to have such a dramatic twist, on the other hand are all the Doctor Who fanboys going to cope with the idea? Lastly let's not forget the Doctor has long been known as a "Time Lord", will having a female Doctor Who mean adding a "Time Lady" into the universe?
