Battlestar Galactica - S4 Faith - Thoughts

Let’s kick things off with an up to date look at a Battlestar Galactica episode that’s just aired [Faith – Season 4 Episode 6]. If you haven’t seen the up to date episodes, please be aware this post will contain spoilers for this episode and perhaps those prior.
Where to begin! After a fairly lackluster beginning to the highly anticipated season 4 of Battlestar Galactica, up pops ‘Faith’ (no not the slayer, just the title) and things start to look interesting again.
The episode had major conflict in the form of the Demetrius mutiny, some cool character development on both the human and cylon sides and an interesting examination of Christian afterlife theologies and the meaning of revenge. Oh and for scifi geeks, Nana Visitor aka Kira Nerys from Star Trek DS9 also plays the supporting role of Emily in this episode and if I’m not mistaken Gaius makes a Star Trek reference on his radio show “The Undiscovered Country”.
Faith finally made season 4 of Battlestar Galactica more interesting and worth watching. Starbuck has semi regained some of what she’s been missing recently and the human / cylon alliance appears to be in full swing. I must admit I did panic for a moment when I thought Natalie had offed Caprica Six, then I remember she’s safely snuggled up on Galactica, phew. Sixes offing of (away team member) Barolay was so cold hearted and I didn’t really understand it until I gave it further thought, it seemed to be an examination of human revenge and the futility of it (given she was a great friend of Anders).
I won’t go into all the plot points of this episode of Battlestar Galactica, but stand out moments for me were the centurion reaction of a Sharon model unplugging the hybrid, the hybrid’s prophecy that “the 5 from 13” sounds like 13 might be Earth, so the final 5 are from Earth! It’s all happened before and will happen again! Anders comforting the dying Sharon model and the realization that they’re really not that different from humans was interesting.
The title of the episode is extremely apt as it questions faith in numerous ways.- religious faith, faith between races, faith in oneself and others. Very smart.
Here’s hoping the episodes continue in this vein and don’t revert back to the whining.
