Fringe in Oz - Why so ignored?
September 15th 2008 00:55
Fringe starts on Aussie screens in mere days (Fast Tracked by Channel 9) but it's all pretty quiet. Given the series main protagonist is Anna Torv, an Aussie actress AND the show is penned by none other than J. J. (everything I touch turns to gold) Abrams, it's odd there hasn't been a LOT more coverage of the news series both on Channel 9 and in the print media here.
I'll be watching regardless as I find Torv to be captivating and I'm looking forward to the X-Files / Alias style that Abrams has become renowned for. Now if only Channel 9 would give this show a bit more advertising, it might actually get somewhere on Australian screens.

I've watched the pilot, but I'll need subsequent episodes before deciding if this will become regular viewing. I usually go for anything Abrams offers (even Felicity), but there's something about Fringe that didn't click immediately with me.

Also, it is less Alias-y and more like Lost, in that the heroine is not unbeatable, nor are the others in the "group" who are sorta tossed together by fate, and that you are discovering the mystery along with them.
Anna is attractive, that is true, and she does an okay job at being an government agent, too. It does need some build up, that's for sure, and the pilot needs some follow up, for sure. I think we'll know if it is solid or not by about Episode 4-5 range, if not a smite sooner.
